Jewel Heart holds 4 or more Buddhist retreats per year. Listed are the 4 major Buddhist retreats held during calendar year as an example. Please refer to the homepage and Rimpoche's Calendar for exact schecules and details on upcoming reteats.

The weeklong Joyful Summer Retreat is held each August on a topic suitable for those with no prior exposure to Buddhism or Tibetan Buddhism. Each retreat combines meditation, teaching, discussion, performance, and other activities around a single retreat topic.

The Winter Retreat is generally open to Vajrayana practitioners only, and devotes 7-10 days to teaching, study, meditation, and intensive practice on specific topics.

The Spring Retreat is held each year in the Netherlands in the months of April and May.

A workshop is held each year at Garrison Institute and falls on Memorial weekend.

Winter Vajrayana Buddhist Retreat 2007

Subject: Lama Chopa with Mahamudra.
    Lama Chopa, A Rite Celebrating the Guru, is a complete guru yoga practice, integrating aspects of sutra and tantra into a common framework. Written in poetic verses it includes methods of relating to one’s guru and a comprehensive meditation on the entire spiritual path.
    The Mahamudra deals with meditation on the conventional and ultimate nature of mind. Combining concentration and wisdom, mind itself becomes the subject as well as object of meditation. This can be practiced very effectively in the context of guru yoga.

VAJRAYANA BUDDHISM
Vajrayana, the tantric or esoteric aspect of Buddha’s teachings, is rooted in experiential understanding of the intention of the sutras; that is, inner development of compassion and wisdom. During this weekend retreat, Gelek Rimpoche will give a brief yet comprehensive overview of the basic framework of tantra illuminating the continuing thread of compassion and wisdom for the vajrayana practitioner. Rimpoche will explore the structure of vajrayana, highlighting the stages and practices contained within various aspects of the vajrayana path, from taking initiation up to the ultimate union of Vajradhara state.
