JEWEL HEART STUDY PROGRAM

New Classes Starting
Registration for the following course will take place the first session. Please plan to come 15-20 minutes early. All courses are held at Jewel Heart Cleveland, 2670 W. 14th St.

Jewel Heart Cleveland offers its courses to all, regardless of ability to pay. If you are unable to afford any course fee, please speak to your instructor about the possibility of a partial or full scholarship.

Deepening Awareness
This course is based on the Four Foundations of Mindfulnesses, and complements Jewel Heart's other beginning meditation class Creating Space.

In this course, we begin to shift meditative awareness gradually from immediate physical sensation to more and more subtle mental phenomena, finally observing any phenomenon, inside and outside of the meditator's body-mind complex. The course is open to all, useful for Buddhist and non-Buddhist students.

Sundays, 1-2:30 pm. 8 weeks beginning March 16 Led by Bill Kirchner. Course fee $80 for non-members, free to members

Continuing: Ganden Lha Gyema - begins February 25th
One of the most important practices in the Tsongkhapa tradition, the Ganden Lha Gyema deepens our connection with the enlightened through meditational exercises that enrich our inner development on the spiritual path. Grounded in appreciation for our spiritual teacher, the Ganden Lha Gyema practice uplifts us through familiarity with generosity, respect, purification, rejoicing, and many other beneficial activities. This course also offers instruction on specific visualization practices interwoven with the mantra commonly referred to as Migstema.

8 week course $80, free for supporting members. Open to all.
Mondays 7:00 - 8:30pm Led by Anne Warren and Susan Kirchner

Continuing: Six Session Guru Yoga course begins Feb. 20
This 10-week course is open to all who have taken Highest Yoga Tantra initiation. Based on Gelek Rimpoche's transcripts, the course will cover the short and long Six Session Yoga, a primary commitment for Vajrayana practitioners that deepens the understanding of guru yoga. Each session will include presentation, discussion and guided visualizations. Open to those with Highest Yoga tantra initiation.

Wednesdays, 7-8:30 beginning Feb. 20. Course fee $100 or free for JH members. Led by Anne Warren and David Hunter.

JH CLEVELAND ACTIVITIES:

For those with Highest Yoga Tantra initiation.

Tibetan Language Class
Pema Shelling will continue to teach Tibetan Language most Sundays (note change) from 10am-noon (unless there is a dharma talk scheduled, in which case class is canceled). Either conversation or classical Tibetan can be learned according to one's interest.

CLEVELAND CHAPTER NEWS

A new workshop in January taught participants to create an altar to suit their own circumstances and gave hands on experience in making offerings. Thanks, Susan and David! Our celebration of the Heruka Yab-Yum Festival (Mandatory Tsoh Days) included a Vajrayogini Tsoh and a Lama Chopa Tsoh, both well attended. Our new Thursday night Gateway to the Spiritual Path course began with Dawn and Sarah as leaders of a highly engaged group, while the Odyssey to Freedom course, led by Bill, finished up appropriately just in time for the initiations and Winter Retreat. Last but not least, our Council Executive Committee held a quick bimonthly meeting in February - minutes will soon be posted on the Cleveland page of the Jewel Heart website.

JEWEL HEART NATIONAL NEWS

Jewel Heart's joyful winter retreat took place in the beautiful facilities of our new Ann Arbor building early in February. Beginning with a Yamantaka initiation to dispel obstacles and precious Cittamani Tara initiations, and concluding with a White Tara longevity initiation, the retreat was a treasury of wonderful teachings. Many old and new students from Cleveland were in attendance. A warm welcome to new Vajrayana practitioners!

Rejoice greatly!
Jewel Heart's pilgrimage to sites of Buddha's life and trip to Drepung Monastery in Mundgod, India ran from January 5-25. Three Clevelanders and two honorary Clevelanders from Pittsburgh were among 32 pilgrims who accompanied Gehlek Rimpoche to practice, make offerings, and hear Rimpoche's teachings at holy sites in Nepal and India, many of which have been visited by pilgrims for more than 2000 years. We also made offerings on behalf of all Jewel Heart to the newly consecrated Buddha statue in the main shrine room at Drepung Loseling and offered a long life puja to Locho Rimpoche, as well as offerings to young Ling Rimpoche, and Lati Rimpoche. Offerings were also made at the stupas of Trijang Rimpoche and Song Rimpoche. A lunch and money offering was given to all 3000 monks of Drepung Loseling as well as a dinner to the young Lamas association, and other offerings too numerous to list here. Truly, this trip gives us all a lot to rejoice in!
