Interested in a statue filling workshop in 2008?
Traditionally in Tibetan Buddhist practice, statues of enlightened beings are filled with mantras and other substance and consecrated before being placed on an altar. If you are interested in a statue filling workshop to be taught by Sönam in January or February, please contact Susan by November 7 at eklipse@zoominternet.net or 330-722-7770. She will need to know which statue you have to be filled and how big it is, so that sufficient materials can be ordered. She can also tell you how to clean out the statue before the workshop.

The cost for the workshop will be $30. In addition, there is a cost for materials to fill the statue, starting with an additional $50 for an 8 inch statue, $60 for 9 inch and so forth. The exception is Vajrayogini statues, which need only $10 worth of materials. If you do not have a statue to be filled, you may attend the workshop and pay only the basic fee. If you cannot attend and have a statue to be filled, someone else may be able to do it - let Susan know.

Cleveland News

September and October have passed quickly with our four continuing classes, Sunday talks, tsohs and other events in Cleveland and elsewhere. A large and enthusiastic group has begun The Art of Living class; discussions are reportedly quite lively.

Gorgeous weather helped to make the Tremont Arts and Cultural Festival a success, and as usual Ujjen's Jewel Heart booth was a favorite, while JH member Lora Swartz also attracted interest with her Blue Lotus Wares.

The 50 Tibetan Dharma words for Practitioners workshop gave participants a chance to hear a real Tibetan slowly recite prayers and repeat after him, to learn the meaning of SANG GYE and 49+ other words, and to learn how to pronounce BSGRUBS!

Our Sangha Council Executive Committee met on Oct. 3. Among other business, a Potluck and Fall Sangha Gathering was planned for Friday, Nov. 2. A number of Cleveland Dharma Instructors and Facilitators will attend the annual Instructor's meeting in Ann Arbor on Saturday, Oct. 27 to keep informed of new developments in the Jewel Heart Study Program.

Over Labor Day weekend Gelek Rimpoche gave challenging teachings on the Wheel of Sharp Weapons Lojong as well as a special Bodhisattva vow ceremony. For the ceremony, the shrine hall was decked with more than 5000 flowers!. A number of Clevelanders were able to attend. The fall retreat on Vajrayana at Garrison Institute also had significant Cleveland representation. Many Cleveland Sangha has a chance to see HH the Dalai Lama in Ithaca, NY and/or Bloomington, Indiana.

Ann Arbor News

For several reasons, Rimpoche has decided to change the spelling of his name back to Gelek Rimpoche. It's easier to spell, that's an additional reason! For more on this, see www.jewelheart.org

As change is inevitable, Jewel Heart will be moving out of the East Washington Street building at the end of October. Jewel Heart was able to sell the building for nearly twice what was paid for it, so significant funds will be available when the perfect new home for the Ann Arbor Sangha and JH national office is found. In the meantime, the offices have shifted to a temporary location, and classes and other programs will be held in various places in Ann Arbor.
