| Light of Asia: Photos by Catherine Rybicki Evocative and beautiful photos of Asia will be shown at Jewel Heart Gallery from June 13 through July. The artist, Catherine Rybicki (Ani Palmo), was born and raised and Cleveland, but has studied and practiced throughout Asia as a Buddhist nun in the Tibetan tradition. Both small and large format prints will be available for sale. Opening reception

| What is Buddhism? Ani Palmo will be offering a survey course in basic Buddhism aimed at giving non-Buddhists a working knowledge of Buddhism and at giving practitioners a chance to supplement what they already know. The course will be academically-oriented, so practitioners of all faiths (or no faith) can attend. ***This course is the perfect place to refer friends and family who ask "What is this Buddhism stuff you do down at Jewel Heart, anyway?"*** When: Tuesdays from 7-8:30pm, starting May 27th Where: Jewel Heart Cleveland, Tremont Cost: $10 per class or $35 per month with registration. | Dancing Wisdom, Compassion and Power: Day-Long Tara Practice Sat. June 21, 10am-4pm Immerse body, speech and mind in meditation through simple powerful dance movements and chanting of the 21 Praises to Tara and other practices. Kris will lead us through these dances originated by Prema Dasara (who will teach in Cleveland in October). Beginners are welcome, even those with two left feet! | Birthday Picnic for His Holiness the Dalai Lama July 6 The picnic is ON!!!!! We will celebrate at Deva’s Edge Retreat Center in Mantua from 12 noon to about 6:00 PM. Bring friends and family and enjoy a relaxing day in an idyllic spot in the country. We are having one of our famous PotLucks which always result in astounding quantities of incredible food - there is a kitchen to heat things up. Jewel Heart will provide drinks. Bring your own plates and utensils. Deva’s Edge is beautiful wooded area, peaceful and tranquil, with a remarkable presence of the land itself. Bring chairs or blankets to sit comfortably in the various serene areas throughout the retreat. Our own Tremont Holler Band will fill the afternoon with music and Kris Kiko-Cozy has offered to lead us in dance. At 4:00 a ceremony to commemorate His Holiness’s birthday will include chanting and the burning of juniper in a fire circle. Directions: Deva’s Edge is easily accessible by highway from Cleveland (35 miles) and Akron (25 miles). FROM WEST: I-480 East. Exit 41, Frost Road. Turn Left. You will hit two lights immediately. Go 4.2 miles, turn Right on Diagonal Road (corn fields and baseball diamond). Go 1.3 miles at bottom of hill, wooden posts on Right mark the drive. Look for the blue dragonfly flag. FROM EAST: Follow Route 44 North or South to Route 303 West. Go approximately 2 miles on Route 303, pass the Save Four Gas Station and over the bridge. Turn Right on Diagonal Road. Go 1.4 miles, wooden posts on Left mark the drive. Look for the blue dragonfly flag. FROM SOUTH: Follow Rt. 8 North to the OH Turnpike I-80 Exit, East toward Youngstown. Exit OH Turnpike at 187/13, I-480/OH 14 in Streetsboro. Keep Right at fork in the ramp and merge onto 480 West. Take first exit, #41 Frost Road. Turn Right. You will hit two lights immediately. | Mala Workshop: Creating and using meditation beads Sat. July 12, 1-5 pm Come learn how to make a 108 bead Buddhist mala, and how to use it to support mantra meditation. We will cover various types of beads and stringing materials. Those who want to can also make wrist malas. The fee of $25 includes materials for a 108 bead gemstone mala (rock crystal, snowflake obsidian, rose quartz or picture stone) with silver or gemstone spacers and guru bead. News The Cleveland coordinators met in May to deal with usual business, and met for a second session to brainstorm ideas and aspirations for the future. Several new people have volunteered to serve on the coordinating team. Study groups, White Tara practice, Lama Chopa Tsohs, and Tara dance sessions all continue. A new addition is the opening of the center on Saturday mornings 8-9 am for silent meditation thanks to Chip! Cleveland Area Events The monks from Namdroling Monastery will be performing the traditional Tibetan Black Hat Lama Dance on Saturday, June 28th at 8pm at the Family Life Center of the Federated Church, Chagrin Falls. Tickets are now on sale for $10, or the group rate of 10 or more is $8. They will also be building a sand mandala which will be open for public viewing. We have some tickets available for sale at Jewel Heart. All are invited participate
in the historic visit of His Holiness Penor Rinpoche (formerly head of

Ratha Yatra 2003 CALENDAR, May 31 (VNN) — Hare Krsna! Cleveland, Ohio ISKCON will be holding our first Ratha Yatra in over 30 years along with The Festival of India. The event is on Saturday May 31st. The parade starts at Lincoln Park at 11:00am on the corner of W. 14th and Kenilworth with the festival to follow. We're urging devotees to get there early to glorify Their Lordships Sri Sri Jagannatha, Baladeva and Lady Subadra. The Festival is being held in Lincoln Park: 2409 W 14th Cleveland, OH 44109.
