The message in Aura Glaser’s A Call
to Compassion is rooted in her depth of knowledge, her
wealth of insight and, most importantly, her tremendous heart.
Not only does she understand this material in its essence,
for twenty-five years I’ve witnessed her living her
life guided by love and compassion. Of all the people I know,
Aura is uniquely qualified to bring these Buddhist practices
of the heart to Western psychology—the first book of
its kind. We are fortunate indeed that she has written this
wonderful book!

I predict that decades from now…the whole nature of
medicine and healing in our society will have changed. Compassion
will have become a working watchword, a constant presence,
a sine qua non, a powerful stream of life-giving water. And
at that time, Aura Glaser’s lucid, eloquent, heartfelt,
illuminating A Call to Compassion will be remembered
as a clarion call that awakened our inspiration.
Robert A. F. Thurman, from the Foreword
This book takes you on a journey to the heart of compassion.
Compassion is essential to well-being, yet the conscious cultivation
of this quality has been overlooked in the field of psychology.
In this compelling and provocative work, Glaser explores the
roots of this dilemma in the work of Freud, Jung and others,
and then introduces the Tibetan Buddhist lojong, a powerful
and effective method for developing love and compassion. She
weaves myth and story, along with practical advice about awakening
compassion and clear instructions for the lojong meditations.
Open to anyone, this practice will help you tap the wellspring
of compassion within.
