News from Jewel Heart Cleveland
On March 19, full moon day and Buddha’s Day of Miracles, Kyabje Gelek Rimpoche gave an engaging and powerful teaching on impermanence. For the first time in Cleveland, his talk was video recorded. By the time Rimpoche returns to Cleveland in September, we may have the capacity to webcast the teaching live to other chapters.
Our first Losar party was a rousing success, with traditional New Year’s offerings, games of sho, and tastes of chang porridge, along with tons of food. This may have to become an annual event.
Looking Back at 2010
The beginning of 2011 gives us a chance to look back at the past year. Let’s follow Rimpoche’s advice and be happy at everything we have learned and accomplished together Here are a few highlights of 2010 in Cleveland….
Teachings on wisdom and a long life empowerment by Gelek Rimpoche
Live video broadcasts bringing us more teachings by Rimpoche, and by Geshe Yeshe Thabkhe, Ganden Tri Rimpoche and Geshe Lhakdor – almost as good as being there.
Live video broadcasts of public Sunday talks by Rimpoche, Aura and Sandy.
Several teachings by Venerable Thubten Chodron.
Teachings, purification ceremonies and individual sessions with monks from Ganden Shartse
Workshops on preparing statues for consecration by Sonam Drakpa.
Vajrayana practice including tsohs, winter retreat and a session for qualified practitioners to begin to learn self-initiation.
Attendance by many at spring, summer, labor day and fall retreats.
Social events including potlucks, a wonderful picnic at Bill and Susan’s, and the ever popular momo making party with the Ganden monks.
Local fundraisers large and small that brought in more than $3500 for Jewel Heart.
Bimonth meetings of the Sangha Council Executive Committee with Sangha wide gatherings as well.
National programs committee in Oct and special meeting Dec. 19 with 6 centers in live video conference via Skype.
!!All this in addition to a regular schedule of classes for practitioners at different levels!!
So – as 2011 begins, we have a lot to rejoice in! Double your merit! And as always, let’s dedicate for Rimpoche’s health and longevity and the ultimate benefit for all beings.
Be happy with all we’ve done, and in the future may we do even more to benefit others!
