A weekend teaching with Venerable Thubten Chodron
“The Elephant’s Footprint: Making Friends with Impermanence”

Change is rarely easy, and we’re frequently reminded of how fragile life is. Join us for a weekend teaching as Ven. Thubten Chodron explains how we can learn to accept change with an open heart, reducing our suffering when we are faced with the impermanence of ourselves and others.  For those who have not heard her before, Ven. Chodron is an American born Buddhist nun who is author of many wonderful dharma books, and founder of Sravasti Abbey in Washington state. Her teaching style is accessible, grounded in tradition and livened by her sense of humor.

Times: Friday, July 20 7:30-9:00 pm
Saturday, July 21 7:30-9:00 pm
Sunday, July 22 1:00-2:30 pm

Suggested donation: $15 per session   These three sessions are a continuous teaching, but it is possible to attend single sessions if you are not able to come for the entire series.

Come for the gambling, stay for the cookies
Friday, August 10. 7:00PM

The social hour will not have a meeting in July due to the many other Jewel Heart activities, so our next get-together will be on August 10th; as usual, the party begins at 7pm.  We have Lora Swartz to thank for the great time we had at the 2nd Friday get-together on June 8th.  Lora kindly provided us with her Sho game.  We spent the evening learning to play this ancient Tibetan dice game, a game so obscure that neither Google nor Wikipedia has a description.  The most interesting aspect of the game?  If it begins before noon the youngest player goes first; if past noon, the oldest.  We had a good crowd and hope to have another when we meet again in August.  We will continue to depend on Alladin’s Bakery for our health-conscious diet of pita bread, humus, taboule and baba ghanough.  Not to worry though; in true Jewel Heart fashion, there were plenty of cookies.  Please join us for a Sho smackdown on August 10th.    In the meanwhile, Peace and Love to all.
