Jewel Heart Sunday talks
Join us for introductory Buddhist-inspired talks on contemporary issues. Free and open to all, these sessions are wonderful for beginners as well as helpful for continuing students, and include guided meditation as well and time for questions.
10 – 11 am on the following Sundays:
November 7 – Karma and Interdependence – Gelek Rimpoche (Live video broadcast from Jewel Heart New York)
Karma’s four properties raise awareness of personal responsibility and introduce us to how interconnected we truly are.
November 21 – Understanding Love – Gelek Rimpoche (Live video broadcast)
November 28 – Buddhism in the Body – Aura Glaser (Live video broadcast)
One of four talks exploring themes related to embodiment, authenticity, love, and spiritual awakening.
December 5 – The Selfless Self. Sandy Finkel (Live video broadcast)
Exploring the discrepancy between a naturally present self and an exaggerated solid self reveals a likely cause of our fear and confusion.
December 19 – Liberating Habits – Gelek Rimpoche (Live video broadcast) Recognition and acknowledgment are frist steps on the path of liberating ourselves from negativity and suffering.
Tsohs
We will practice Lama Chopa tsohs on the following dates and times. All are welcome to participate, and flyers describing the practice are available.

Creating a sacred environment (aka cleaning the center)
Come join our all-volunteer cleaning crew on Nov. 6 and Dec. 4 from 2:30-4 pm. You can get a good aerobic workout, or just sit quietly and polish silver! The first Sat. of each month is cleaning day at JH Cleveland. We all need a good purification practice!
Food Drive
From November through spring, we will be collecting non-perishable food to donate to those in our community who are in need. Bring your donations to any Jewel Heart event. Please donate only items you would be happy to eat yourself.

October 26 is Gelek Rimpoche’s birthday and in honor of the occasion Geshe Lhakdor will speak on the subject of Guru devotion. Geshe Lhakdor is director of the Central Archive of the Dalai Lama andhas served His Holiness as translator and religious assistant since 1989, accompanying him to numerous conferences and forums throughout the world. He has translated many important works from English to Tibetan and from Tibetan to English and offers rare insight into the cultural and philosophical issues surrounding Buddhism coming to the West. He currently serves as the Director of the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives in Dharamsala, India. All are welcome!

His Holiness Ganden Tripa Rizong Rinpoche is the current head of the Tibetan Buddhist Gelugpa tradition. Visiting the United States for a special October conference in Atlanta with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Jewel Heart is fortunate to host Tri Rinpoche in Ann Arbor in November. He will give a two day teaching on the Ganden Lhagyema, a Guru Yoga practice of Tsongkhapa.

Jewel Heart Cleveland Holiday Maker’s Faire (aka Holiday Arts and Crafts Sale)
This year holiday fundraiser will run from early November through Friday December 10, so plan to find all your holiday gifts and treasures here! Displays of handmade jewelry, ceramics, photos, knitwear, fiber art, handmade soap and edibles by local talent will be available during all Jewel Heart events in November and December. The sale will conclude with a holiday party and open house on Friday, December 10 from 6:00 to 9:30 pm, so invite all your friends! Shop early and shop often to benefit Jewel Heart and the talented artisans who make the work.

Je Tsongkhapa Day Tsoh: Tibetan Festival of Lights
This year, Wednesday December 1 is Je Tsongkhapa day, a time to commemorate the life and teachings of Je Tsongkhapa, founder of our Gelug tradition. The center will be illuminated by more than 100 candle and electric lights offerings, as well as flower and water bowl offerings. We will chant the Lama Chöpa Tsoh in English and with some verses sung in Tibetan; a flyer describing this practice is available for newcomers.
Please bring a food offering, such as bread, fruit, cake or cookies. Canned goods will be donated to local charities, while other food will be shared after the ceremony.
All are welcome, children included!

The Healing Practice of White Tara – begins Nov. 7
Tara is the mother goddess of Tibetan Buddhism, known for her quick and compassionate activity. She is particularly associated with healing and long life. This course uses visualization techniques relying on the feminine energy of White Tara to overcome physical, mental and emotional suffering.

Gateway to the Spiritual Path – begins Nov. 15
Building a solid spiritual foundation through preparatory topics and practices is the main focus of this course. Transforming Negativities and the Three Principles of the Path by Gehlek Rimpoche provide the basis of study.

Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life, Chapter 2 – begins Oct. 27
In this intermediate level class we will read, discuss and meditate Chapter 2 of Shantideva’s Guide to the Bodhisattvas Way of Life, which deals with important practices such as offering and purification.
