October 26 is Gelek Rimpoche’s birthday and in honor of the occasion Geshe Lhakdor will speak on the subject of Guru devotion. Geshe Lhakdor is director of the Central Archive of the Dalai Lama andhas served His Holiness as translator and religious assistant since 1989, accompanying him to numerous conferences and forums throughout the world. He has translated many important works from English to Tibetan and from Tibetan to English and offers rare insight into the cultural and philosophical issues surrounding Buddhism coming to the West. He currently serves as the Director of the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives in Dharamsala, India. All are welcome!

His Holiness Ganden Tripa Rizong Rinpoche is the current head of the Tibetan Buddhist Gelugpa tradition. Visiting the United States for a special October conference in Atlanta with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Jewel Heart is fortunate to host Tri Rinpoche in Ann Arbor in November. He will give a two day teaching on the Ganden Lhagyema, a Guru Yoga practice of Tsongkhapa.

Jewel Heart Cleveland Holiday Maker’s Faire (aka Holiday Arts and Crafts Sale)
This year holiday fundraiser will run from early November through Friday December 10, so plan to find all your holiday gifts and treasures here! Displays of handmade jewelry, ceramics, photos, knitwear, fiber art, handmade soap and edibles by local talent will be available during all Jewel Heart events in November and December. The sale will conclude with a holiday party and open house on Friday, December 10 from 6:00 to 9:30 pm, so invite all your friends! Je Tsongkhapa Day Tsoh: Tibetan Festival of Lights
This year, Wednesday December 1 is Je Tsongkhapa day, a time to commemorate the life and teachings of Je Tsongkhapa, founder of our Gelug tradition. The center will be illuminated by more than 100 candle and electric lights offerings, as well as flower and water bowl offerings. We will chant the Lama Chöpa Tsoh in English and with some verses sung in Tibetan; a flyer describing this practice is available for newcomers.
Please bring a food offering, such as bread, fruit, cake or cookies. Canned goods will be donated to local charities, while other food will be shared after the ceremony.
All are welcome, children included!

The Healing Practice of White Tara – begins Nov. 7
Tara is the mother goddess of Tibetan Buddhism, known for her quick and compassionate activity. She is particularly associated with healing and long life. This course uses visualization techniques relying on the feminine energy of White Tara to overcome physical, mental and emotional suffering.

Gateway to the Spiritual Path – begins Nov. 15
Building a solid spiritual foundation through preparatory topics and practices is the main focus of this course. Transforming Negativities and the Three Principles of the Path by Gehlek Rimpoche provide the basis of study.

This intermediate level course, based on Rimpoche’s SEM transcript, brings teachings on the mind’s nature, its relation to energy, and its continuation, into a practical understanding useful for taming our own minds and fostering our capacity for developing the qualities of compassion and wisdom that lead to full enlightenment.

Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life, Chapter 2 – begins Oct. 27
In this intermediate level class we will read, discuss and meditate Chapter 2 of Shantideva’s Guide to the Bodhisattvas Way of Life, which deals with important practices such as offering and purification.
