Lama Chopa Tsoh in honor of Je Tsongkhapa, Losang Drakpa, December 27

This year December 27 is Ganden Ngam Chu, the day Tibetans commemorate the life and enlightening activities of Je Rimpoche, often known as Je Tsongkhapa. On this evening, thousands of butter lamps are offered in Tibetan communities throughout the world.

All are welcome to participate. Please bring an offering of food such as bread, cake or fruit, which participants may share after the ceremony.

All are welcome!  Copies of the practice are available at the center.  Vajrayana students, please bring your ritual implements

Jewel Heart Study Program

New classes

Perfection of Wisdom Mantra course

This class is based on Rimpoche transcript on the mantra of the Heart Sutra, which has both a direct and an indirect meaning. After a brief discussion of the direct meaning, Rimpoche elaborates on the five paths of the Mahayana, which is the indirect meaning of this mantra, and shows us some details of the advancing stages on the way to enlightenment.

The class will include concentrated meditation, presentation of the week’s material by an instructors, time for discussion, and analytic meditation on the topics. Readings will be taken from The Perfection of Wisdom Mantra transcript, available for purchase at JH Cleveland (hardcopy), or through digital dharma on the JH website (downloadable).

Recommended for students with some background in the Tibetan tradition of Buddhism.

Instructors: Anne Warren and Susan Kirchner
Cost: Free for Jewel Heart members, or $110 for non-members
Time: 11 Tuesdays beginning Nov. 5, 7-8:30 pm

White Tara meditation sessions – open to all

On Sundays, following Rimpoche’s broadcast talk, we will be offering guided White Tara meditations. Tara, a female enlightened being who has many manifestations, is known for her swift and compassionate help. White Tara is especially renowned for healing and wisdom. We will practice using Gelek Rimpoche’s Prayer to the Noble Tara, and will learn some of the many visualizations practices of White Tara. Copies of the practice, and cards with Tara’s image are available at no cost for those who wish to do this practice.

These sessions are free and open to all. Beginners welcome!
Time: Sundays, beginning Nov. 3, 11:30-12:30

Looking forward to 2014

Plans are going forward for a variety of new programs in 2014, including courses on concentrated meditation and practice session. We are hoping for visits by both Rimpoche and Ven. Chodron in the first half of the year, and will publish the dates and topics when they are confirmed.

New keys
Based on a new facilities policy sent to all Jewel Heart centers, the central office requested that each center’s president keep a list of all keys to the center and who has them. Since JH Cleveland had never kept track of its keys, we changed the locks and now have new keys. If you need a key to the center and haven’t yet received a new one, please contact Sarah Ralston or Anne Warren.
