SONGS OF SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE are inspirational verses spontaneously composed by the great 14th century Tibetan Buddhist scholar, Je Tsong Khapa. As commentary on the stages of the path to enlightenment, Je Tsong Khapa’s deep understanding and personal experience offers us the opportunity to similarly transform ourselves and how we participate in the world.

Your donations and/or Jewel Heart membership are appreciated and help to present, preserve, and distribute Gelek Rimpoche’s teachings.

GELEK RIMPOCHE will teach these verses over the coming months from both Jewel Heart in Ann Arbor and New York. Among the last generation of incarnate lamas tutored by the great masters of Old Tibet, Rimpoche’s command of western culture allows him to convey the Tibetan Buddhist tradition with wisdom, kindness and wit. Rimpoche is the Founder and Spiritual Director of Jewel Heart.

Special Guest Speaker – Lene Handberg

Special Guest Speaker – Lene Handberg
Eastern Inner Science of Mind and Reality

Friday, September 30, 7 – 9:30pm

In this free public talk, Lene Handberg will introduce the essence of Unity in Duality through the inter-related nature of subject-object, body-mind and energy-matter; key topics for understanding how we influence and experience our reality.

Tarab Tulku Rinpoche and Lene Handberg founded Unity in Duality, an educational system based on the ancient inner science of mind and phenomena known as tendrel, the inter-related nature of existence. It is a very important training system for individuals interested in personal development and spiritual practice as well as for practitioners in various fields of service, such as psychology and health care.

Weekend Workshop – Open to All
DREAM-BODY: Stepping Stone for Personal and Spiritual Transformation
at JEWEL HEART – 260 W. Broadway, New York, NY 100133
Saturday, October 1 – Sunday, October 2
Saturday, October 1: 9:30am – 12pm and 2 – 6pm
Sunday, October 2: 9:30am – 12pm and 2 – 5pm

Reliance upon sense perceptions and the discursive conceptualizing mind on the basis of our body of flesh and bones, leads to us to a belief in a solid reality and keeps us in the strong grip of dualism. From the point of view of Tantra, spiritual development is seen as a progressive mastery of increasingly subtler embodiments and the body/mind/reality interrelationship – and thus the usefulness of working with the dream body-mind. The tantric practitioner, with lucid dream abilities, trains to master the dream body-mind, gaining insight into as well as transcending the layers of reality.

Tarab Tulku further tells us that mastering either the dream body or the imagery body provides a great opportunity to directly and radically deal with underlying key problems that otherwise unconsciously rule our lives. Such mastery brings further opening to profound intuitive insights.

Methods for training the imagery dream body-mind will be practiced this weekend to transform inadequate mental structures; the mastery of which gives access to deep inner strength of being and is an important stepping stone to mediate between our present body and mind condition and the energy body-mind needed for serious spiritual progress.

Cost: $45

Lama Chopa Tsoh Offering – In Celebration of Rimpoche’s Birthday

Tuesday, October 25, 7-9PM

To celebrate the October 26 birthday of Kyabje Gelek Rimpoche, Jewel Heart New York welcomes everyone who wishes to celebrate the Lama Chöpa Tsoh, a practice which can be of great benefit for beginners as well as advanced practitioners.

The Tibetan word Tsoh means gathering, collection, or assembly. The Tsoh offering is a great feast offered to all enlightened beings and to all non-enlightened beings as well, including ourselves. It is one of the most important practices of generosity, and is also extremely effective for accumulation of merit. This comprehensive practice strengthens our relationship with our spiritual teachers through offerings, especially offerings of our practice. It guides us through a meditation that includes all the necessary prerequisites: after beginning with Mahayana refuge and bodhimind, we generate our visualization of the merit field and invite the actual enlightened beings, to whom we then offer the Seven Limb practice in elaborate and beautiful verses. Also included is a detailed meditation on all the stages of the path to enlightenment.

To participate fully, bring either an offering of good quality food such as bread, cookies, cake or fruit, or an offering of money, which will help to pay for the food which the center has purchased for the Tsoh.

In 1959, at the age of four, Sonam Dhargye escaped from Tibet in the company of Gelek Rimpoche. At the age of 14 he entered the Gyuto Tantric Monastery and as a young monk he was recognized for his extraordinary talents in the ritual arts. In 1966 Dhargye was honored to be selected by His Holiness the Dalai Lama as the youngest chant master in the history of the Gyuto Monastery, which was founded in the 15th century. Later he mastered the other tantric rituals of sand painting and butter sculpture

In the 1980’s and 90’s he was part of a religious arts tour titled Sacred Music, Sacred Dance sharing the stage with Philip Glass, Paul Simon, Patti Smith and many others.

As religious assistant to his mentor, Gelek Rimpoche, Sonam Dhargye continues to offer his talents and skills in preparing and conducting ceremonies and ritual workshops in Gelek Rimpoche’s Jewel Heart Centers around the world. He currently lives in Chicago.
