The Inner World of Mind: Mind and Mental Faculties
Tuesdays, 7-8:30 pm, beginning September 18
Prerequisite for this class is Odyssey to Freedom or other Lam Rim teaching. This advanced level course will use Gelek Rimpoche’s teachings on mind and mental factors to help us better understand how our minds function and give us tools to build eliminate negative qualities and build positive ones.

Six Session Guru Yoga

The Four Noble Truths
Mondays 7:30-9:00 pm (notice later start time)
This course will explore Buddha’s main message that there is suffering and it can be completely eliminated through one’s own efforts.

Concentrated meditation practice evenings
Thursdays, 7:00-8:30
This free weekly practice session offers Q&A or brief meditation instruction from 7-7:30 pm and two silent sittings from 7:30-8:30 pm. Beginners are welcome.

Purification practice aka create a sacred environment aka cleaning the center
Contact Nancy at 216-662-6999 if you want to be part of the cleaning crew, and she will contact you when a cleaning session is scheduled (usually every 4-8 weeks). A bit of aerobic exercise and great purification – what could be better?

Ritual Arts Demonstrations and Instruction at Jewel Heart Cleveland
Sönam Dhargye, who is a former chanting master (umdze) of Gyuto Tantric College and one of Gelek Rimpoche’s long-time students and ritual assistants, has been a valued resource for all of us in Jewel Heart for many years. In addition to singing, he is especially skilled in Buddhist arts such as mandala construction and butter sculpture. He will be visiting JH Cleveland from October 20-28 to give a series of workshops and demonstrations of traditional Tibetan Buddhist ritual arts. Read through all the events listed below – there is
something for everyone!
While we give suggested donations for the following events, which will primarily go to support Sönam, if you are unable to afford what is suggested, please come anyway and give what you can.

Mandala drawing workshop
Sunday, Oct. 21, 1:30-4:30 pm
Place: Jewel Heart Cleveland
Following the traditions used by practitioners to create sand mandalas as well as drawn or painted mandalas, students will learn the basic principles of mandala construction using colored pencils and a compass on paper.
This workshop is open to all.
Please bring colored pencils and a compass if you can. We will have some extras at the center.

Lama Chöpa Tsoh
Wednesday, Oct. 24, 7-9 pm
Place: Jewel Heart Cleveland
This offering ceremony is based on a Guru Yoga practice of Je Tsongkhapa. All are welcome to participate. We will sing parts of the ceremony in Tibetan, and will have copies of the text available. Please bring a food offering and bring your ritual implements if you have them.
Open to all.

Lama Chöpa Tsoh preparation
Wednesday, Oct. 24, 3-6 pm
Place: Jewel Heart Cleveland
For those who are interested, Sonam will instruct on making the ritual cake known as a tsoh, as well as other points of preparation for a tsoh offering ceremony. Note: it is not required to attend this session to attend the tsoh at 7 pm.

Torma making workshop
Thursday, Oct. 25, 7-9 pm
Tormas are ritual cakes, often ornately decorated, that are using in many ways in Tibetan Buddhism. Following Gelek Rimpoche’s instructions, in this workshop we will practice making the basic torma shape with a few simple ornaments. Sample of Sonam’s more elaborate work will be on display. This workshop is open to all.

Learning to set up an altar
Friday, Oct. 26, 7-9 pm Kyabje Gelek Rimpoche’s birthday!
Sönam will teach and demonstrate how to set up a basic Buddhist altar as well as more elaborate offerings for special occasions. After the altar is set up, Sönam will lead us in singing long-life prayers for Gelek Rimpoche, followed by birthday cake, cookies and hot beverages, which we will first bless using both Tibetan and English verses.

Butter Sculpture Demonstration and Dinner at Bill and Susan’s
Saturday, Oct. 27, demo at 4:30, dinner beginning around 6 pm

House or business blessing
Sonam will be available for house or business blessings from 10 am to noon on Sunday, Oct. 21 through Sunday Oct. 28. Some afternoon and evening hours are also available.
