SIX YOGAS OF NIGUMA
Saturday, March 2: 10:00 – 12:00pm, 2:00 – 5:00pm
Sunday, March 3, 2:00 – 5:00pm
Eastern Time
Description:
Niguma, which simply means “Sister”, was the blood sister of the great Indian master Naropa. The Six Yogas of Naropa, brought to Tibet by Marpa Lotsawa and transmitted through Milarepa, are very famous in Tibetan Buddhism, and Tsongkhapa wrote two commentaries to the traditions. Lesser known, but of equal importance, is the lineage of Six Yogas descending from Niguma, who is famed for achieving enlightenment in one lifetime. Her lineage was brought to Tibet by Kyungpo Naljor and became the basis of the Shangpa School. The Second Dalai Lama held two streams of this lineage: the “close” oral transmission from Lama Tsongkhapa; and the “long” transmission that he received from his father, who was the head of the Shangpa School. Our weekend will explore the yogas that are taught in the Second Dalai Lama’s commentary.

SIX YOGAS OF NAROPA
Friday, March 8: 7:00 – 9:00pm
Saturday, March 9, 10:00 – 12:00pm, 2:00 – 5:00pm
Eastern Time
Description:
The SIX YOGAS OF NAROPA are perhaps the most widespread approach to completion stage tantric practice in Tibet. Originally transmitted from Naropa to his Tibetan disciple Marpa, the lineage was quickly absorbed by all schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
Glenn, who has published two books on the tradition, originally received the oral transmission of the Six Yogas as part of his studies and training in Dharamsala between 1972 and 1992. The workshop is open to everyone, although anyone wishing to seriously pursue the practice should eventually seek out the empowerments associated with the tradition.
TRANSMISSION AND TRANSLATION OF BUDDHISM IN THE WEST
Sunday, March 10: 11:00am – 12:00pm
Description:
The transmission of Buddhism as a living enlightenment legacy is often called “Cho-kyi-khorlo-korwa.” meaning “Turning the Wheel of Dharma.” The meaning is that knowledge of the practices for invoking enlightenment, as well as the according realizations or wisdoms that are produced, are like a wheel that rolls from one generation to another. It passed in this way in India from one generation to another, and then rolled from Indian holders to Tibetan, (e.g, from Atisha to Lama Drom, from Naropa to Marpa, and so forth). It is presently in the process of rolling from Tibetan masters to Western ones. The success of this experiment depends on both translation and transmission — the outer words and the inner realizations of the enlightenment tradition.

LUCID DREAMING AND SLEEP YOGA

Sunday, March 17, 1:00 – 4:00pm Central Time
Description:
In Buddhist Tantric Practice, the main body of practice is twofold, termed simply “clear light yoga” and “illusory body yoga.” In general, sleep yoga is part of the clear light yoga practice, and dream yoga part of the illusory body practice. In turn, the clear light of sleep yoga becomes clear light yoga at the time of death, and dream yoga becomes bardo yoga, the means of accomplishing enlightenment in the bardo.
Our weekend will explore various techniques from the Tibetan tradition that open our access to these important states.
