Mindfulness of Breath Sutra
Drikung Kyabgon
Jewel Heart is pleased to announce that HH Drikung Kyabgon, the 37th throne holder of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, has graciously accepted our invitation to visit Jewel Heart. Drikung Rinpoche, and the Drikung lineage itself, is famous for its phowa, also known as the transfer of consciousness. Our late teacher, Kyabje Gelek Rimpoche, had pointed out that this ritual “gives you a glimpse of what your future life could be.”
MINDFULNESS OF BREATH SUTRA (Anapana Smiriti Sutra)
Drikung Rinpoche will teach on the Anapanasmriti Sutra, the Sutra on the Mindfulness of Breathing. Taught by the Buddha himself and carried on in all Buddhist traditions to this day, mindfulness of breath, while no doubt one of the foundational meditation techniques, is a profound practice in its own right.
Being anchored on the breath allows us to observe the state of our mind, our emotions and physical sensations on many levels. Meditation on the breath is the basis for many other meditation techniques, such as Tong Len (Giving and Taking on the Breath) and also balances the subtle energies in the body in preparation for Vajrayana practices.
