Open to those who have previously taken precepts
Onsite at Jewel Heart Ann Arbor and online

The day on which Buddha was born, attained enlightenment, and passed away (also known as parinirvana) is celebrated as Sakadawa Day by Tibetan Buddhist traditions. The lunar calendar is used to calculate the day of commemoration. This year Sakadawa Day falls on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

There is great merit in taking the Eight Mahayana Precepts for 24 hours on Sakadawa Day. The precepts are taken before sunrise, therefore, precepts will be taken together promptly at 5:00am ET. Both the Center and the Zoom link will be open at 4:45am. Please plan on arriving before the start time.

If you have already taken the precepts and want to take them on your own, resources are available here.

Free but registration is required.
